How To STOP Make Excuses And START Making It Happen!
If you are finding yourself hitting a plateau in your fitness or struggling with reaching the goals you have set for yourself, then today I am going to show you exactly how to break through those barriers with just learning the 3 R's. Don't worry, it's Reading, Writing and Arithmetic ;)
Now it's not going to be easy, but if you can say to yourself that you are truly serious about getitng results then you can get started today!
The Three R's
I call this finding your "B".
When I meet with someone the first question I ask them is what is your A – Z? In other words, where are you right now, and ultimately where do you want to get to.
I like to say that we are "GPSing" their fitness goals.
They tell me their starting point and destination and I help plot out their points to get there.
Before we can get to "Z" we have to first go from A to B. Don't miss this point. The reason that most resolutions and goals fail is that they are not reasonable goals but instead are these huge changes that end up being much too difficult a jump from our current habits. It's like going from A to M.
What is reasonable?
What's an easy first step we can take to see some positive changes? If you set a goal for yourself and you don't think you can maintain that 6 months from now, then that is not a reasonable goal. Think simpler. Many of the first steps can be just getitng started with something small.
One of the questions I also ask my clients when is could they maintain that goal on the craziest, busiest week of the year.
Sure, if it's a really slow week and you have plenty of free time you can probably do awesome with meal prepping, workouts, etc.. But what about when it's chaos week at work and you have activities and events every evening?
If you think it would be hard to maintain it during those times it's not a great goal to set because trust me, life WILL get hard. Think small, think simple.
I call this finding your WHY. Okay, so you want to go from A to Z? Why?
It's suprising how many of my clients cannot answer this the first time I meet with them. They know they want to change, but they can't explain to me why this is important to them. Not at first anyway.
After some gentle prodding and getting them to let their guard down we finally get to the truth of why they want to work towards their goal. It's here that real growth happens and it's here I want to encourage you to start.
Take some time to reflect on why you want to lose 30 lbs., compete in a tough mudder, hit a new Deadlift PR.
How is reaching that particular fitness goal going to spiral out and impact the rest of your life?
Once we know our A to Z and we understand why we need to be there, the goals we set become much more manageable.
Bottom Line: Get started mapping out your own GPS for where you want to go and how you are going to get there. Start with A and get to B.
